Maureena’s Torah Reflections
Parashat Ki Tavo. Deuteronomy 26:1-29:8
And you shall rejoice in all the good that the LORD your God has given to you and to your house, you, and the Levite, and the sojourner who is among you” (Deut. 26.11).
These lines remind me of words in a google definition of the difference between joy and happiness: It’s possible to experience joy in difficult times. It’s possible to know joy or feel joy in spite of grief or uncertainty.
Joy blooms through connection. It’s what God wants for us. Joy is present, in the moment. Happiness is fickle. It can be present for weeks on end and gone in an instant. True joy is constant.

“Since the spiritual patrimony common to Christians and Jews is thus so great, this sacred synod wants to foster and recommend that mutual understanding and respect which is the fruit, above all, of biblical and theological studies.”
