Parashat Re’eh | Deuteronomy 11:26-16:17
“See (Re’eh) I am setting before you today a blessing and curse…” (Deut. 11:26).
“See” is an imperative verb in the masculine singular, while “you” is plural because Moses is addressing the whole people. It is important that each person must choose freely and take responsibility for his/her actions.
People absorb information in different ways, some by seeing, some by hearing, some by touching. The Israelites are now asked to see the difference that following God’s ways can make in their life. The choice of whether or not to accept the Torah is nothing less than the choice between a blessing and curse. The next three sidrot contain the bulk on the commandments found in Deuteronomy.
