Parashat Shofetim. Deuteronomy 16:18-21:9
And if you say in your heart, ‘How may we know the word that the LORD has not spoken?’ (Deut. 18:21)
A similar question arises, ‘How may we know the word that the LORD has spoken?’
The answer is given is Deut. 18.21, “when a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the word does not come to pass or come true, that is a word that the LORD has not spoken.”
The answer sounds simple, ‘if it turns out to be true, it was true.’
Time will tell if I took the right step or the wrong step. This also is a guide to our religious beliefs. The doctrine of Supersessionism, for example, has wrought much evil in the world, as has the teaching that a woman is the originator of evil.
Experience is our best teacher. We know by the results if we made a good decision, or a bad decision.
