Parashat Yitro. Exodus 18:1-20:23
“Remember the Sabbath day (the minimum requirement), to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work…For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy” (Ex. 20:8–20:11).
For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth,…,and rested on the seventh day.
Those who keep the Sabbath and call it a delight will rejoice in Your realm. A people that sanctifies Sabbath will delight in Your goodness. For, being pleased with the 7th day, You sanctified it as the most precious of days so we might remember the ongoing work of creation.
Those who keep the Sabbath and call it a delight will rejoice.
“Our God and God of our ancestors, desire our rest. Sanctify us with your mitzvot and grant us a share in your Torah. Satisfy us with Your goodness and gladness us with Your salvation. Purify our hearts to serve you in truth. In your gracious love, Adonai, our God, grant us our heritage.” (A prayer, on Sabbath, at Kol HaNeshama, Jerusalem).
